Voicemod, an artificial intelligence firm based in Valencia, Spain, has introduced a groundbreaking technology that allows users to modify their voices in real-time while gaming.

As reported by CNBC, the company recently unveiled a collection of "AI humans," which includes 20 humanlike characters with a wide range of voices, from a young woman to an elderly man.

These voices have been trained on recordings from professional voice actors, ensuring a lifelike and immersive experience.

Switch Voices While Gaming

The technology developed by Voicemod enables gamers to download the app on their Apple Mac or Windows PC and use it as a "virtual microphone" in video games.

By incorporating Voicemod's technology, users can seamlessly switch between different personas, speaking through alternative voices while communicating with other players on platforms like Discord.

With a user base of over 40 million people, Voicemod's technology has gained significant popularity among gamers and social app enthusiasts.

The app provides a creative outlet for users to have fun, enjoy themselves, and feel a sense of belonging.

Leveraging AI for Real-Time Voice Modification Tech

While many AI algorithms can generate text-based responses, ensuring real-time voice conversion requires substantial computing power and expertise.

Voicemod's team, consisting of talent from leading technical universities in Valencia and Barcelona, has been dedicated to advancing voice synthesis and interactive audio features since 2014.

Voicemod has secured $23 million in funding from prominent venture capitalists, including Leadwind and Bitkraft Ventures, to support their ambitious project.

This financial support has allowed the company to invest in cutting-edge computing infrastructure and develop proprietary algorithm models.

Addressing Concerns

The company is not oblivious to the risks associated with voice-changing technology. Misusing such technology, such as imitating political figures, and phishing or scamming people, is a concern.

Recognizing the need for responsible usage and regulation, Voicemod is actively working on solutions to address these risks.

They are nearly finalizing a "watermarking" system to identify voices generated using modification systems.

Additionally, the company is engaging in discussions with other firms to establish standards for voice-changing technology and ensure its safe and ethical deployment.

Speaking with CNBC, Voicemod CEO Jaime Bosch emphasizes the importance of responsible innovation and anticipates that laws will be put in place to govern the use of this technology.

He acknowledges that companies often move faster than regulations and aims to stay ahead by promoting responsible practices within his company.

Demand for AI Voice-Generation Tech

Voicemod primarily focuses on the entertainment industry, catering to gamers, streamers, content creators, and virtual YouTubers.

However, the startup has plans to expand its reach to other sectors, forge partnerships with gaming companies and VR headset platforms, and even launch a mobile version of its software.

Voicemod's software is available for free, allowing users to access a wide range of voice options. The company also offers a paid PRO version that unlocks additional features and content, providing users with even more customization possibilities.
