A new standard may be coming soon for EV charging in the US, as another company adopts the NACS charging ports, with Electrify America pledging its use to arrive by 2025. The Tesla charging ports and connectors are seeing growth with many companies adopting it, centering on a charger that could connect multiple vehicles in its stations.

Being one of the largest charging companies in the world, Electrify America has become one of the most used among different car manufacturers that have no specific charging stations.

Electrify America announced its pledge to adopt the Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector to its charging stations across the country. The company announced that the transition would complete by 2025, and it would offer the NACS to all those that need it, especially as its adoption is also massive in the automotive industry.

"We look forward to continuing to support industry-wide standards that increase vehicle interoperability and streamline public charging, "said Robert Barrosa, president, and CEO of Electrify America.

The company's existing CCS-1 plug standard would not be removed but would join alongside the NACS to provide EV charging for those who need it.

Is the Tesla NACS Going to be the NA Standard?

Tesla's NACS is growing to be a widely-used and adopted charging port in North America, and this is for good measure as more are using clean energy cars. Soon, it may be the NA region's standard for EV charging ports.

Electrify America is joining alongside other companies with the consumer advocacy group National Charging Experience Consortium (ChargeX) to make charging stations more accessible and improve the infrastructure for all.

Tesla is one of the world's leading clean energy companies which mostly focuses on transportation, and back in 2022, the company announced that it is sharing the design for its NACS chargers for others to use. The company has strived for this design to be the North American standard since then, for them to also share its Superchargers and more.

Among those who have already joined include Ford and GM in North America, and these two are among the top companies that provide electrification for their lineup, soon to also change their ICEs.

On the other hand, Volvo was next to announce their use of the NACS for their EVs, making them the first in the European region.

With many companies already adopting the NACS charger standard, there would be more charging stations sharing the same ports for different car brands. This adoption of Electrify America would widen and cater to more electric vehicles in the country, a particularly helpful move as more are adopting clean energy for mobility.
