OpenAI, a Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence (AI) firm, has released an Android version of its ChatGPT app, expanding chatbot accessibility. This Android launch, which comes after the iOS app's debut in May, makes the ChatGPT app accessible to users all across the globe for the first time outside of OpenAI's website.

The ChatGPT Android app comes with a variety of features, such as the ability to sync user history across devices, voice input, and rapid access to the chatbot for immediate answers, recommendations, creative inspiration, email or presentation drafts, and more, per CNBC. Using the internal voice recognition of OpenAI, users may interact with the generative AI to ask questions, get responses, and receive help on various subjects.

The ChatGPT Plus app requires at least an Android 6.0 version and subscribers can switch between GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 language models depending on their needs.

OpenAI intends to expand AI technology availability in locations where Android is the most popular mobile OS, or PC usage is limited by launching the ChatGPT app for Android.

Use ChatGPT with Caution

However, researchers advise users to take care when relying on chatbot replies since AI models developed using internet data may provide false or misleading information. The AI's "hallucinations" might result in incorrect assertions and shoddy contextual reasoning, per Engadget. Consequently, ChatGPT is more suited as a starting point for a task than seeking definite answers, especially in creative efforts where exact precision may not be necessary.

OpenAI works to reduce the hazards posed by clever AI, but there are still worries about how these technologies may spread false information and exercise control. While performers in the entertainment business have voiced concerns about possible AI-driven remuneration difficulties, political officials have argued for responsible development and potential legislation.

Is The ChatGPT App on Android Available Worldwide?

The ChatGPT app for Android is accessible in Brazil, Bangladesh, India, the United States, Argentina, Canada, Germany, France, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and South Korea. In the next week, OpenAI intends to increase the number of nations in which it is accessible.

The ChatGPT Android app launch comes as the top chatbot companies, including OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Anthropic, engage in an accelerating AI development race. With ongoing developments in chatbot applications and other capabilities like visual search, tech companies are vying for customers' attention to urge them to use generative AI in their everyday lives.

Microsoft invested $10 billion in OpenAI, the biggest AI investment of 2023. OpenAI generated $300 million in April, valuing the firm at $27 to $29 billion, which attracted investments from Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz.

While Google's Bard AI primarily uses a web interface rather than a separate app, the GPT-4 model, which also drives the Bing AI chatbot, has been accessible on Android for several months, per The Verge.
