If you've ever questioned the wisdom of storing a gas-guzzling motorcycle in your car's trunk, you're not alone.
Honda had a similar thought when they discontinued their small motorcycle designed for this purpose after just two years. However, now they're back with a twist - an electric twist, to be precise.
Motocompacto Scooter in its All-Electric Glory
Honda unveils the modern look of the Motocompo scooter from the '80s, but this time in its brand-new all-electric setup.
Honda's resurrection of the "Motocompacto'' isn't exactly surprising if you've been following the electric vehicle scene. While it's built as an EV micro scooter, you should limit your expectations about its speed.
Don't expect the Motocompacto to set speed records. This folding scooter from the '80s is all about urban convenience, not raw power, according to Engadget. Its front-wheel motor boasts a modest 490W output, propelling it to a top speed of just 15 mph (25 km/h).
While Honda doesn't specify the exact battery capacity in ampere-hours (Ah), they do claim an "up to 12 miles" (20 km) range. Charging is a breeze with a 110V charger, taking a mere 3.5 hours to replenish the battery. Plus, there's a nifty onboard storage spot for the charger, perfect for workplace top-ups.
The Motocompacto borrows its folding design inspiration from its predecessor, the Motocompo. When stowed away, it's only measured at 3.7 inches wide. It resembles a smaller briefcase in its full-fold mode, measuring just 29 inches long and 21 inches high.

All-New Motocompacto Surpass its Predecessor
Weighing in at 41.3 lb. (18.7 kg), the Motocompacto is significantly lighter than the original Motocompo from the 1980s. This makes it far more manageable, especially when extracting it from your vehicle.
While the original Motocompo was often used as a dinghy for cars, the Motocompacto seems destined for a different path.
Honda envisions it as a part of their expanding electric scooter and motorcycle lineup. According to Jane Nakagawa, vice president of the R&D Business Unit at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., it's designed to be easy to use, fun to ride, and, most importantly, safe and durable.
Priced at a competitive $995, the Motocompacto will be available for purchase online and at Honda and Acura dealerships starting in November.
Whether it becomes a quirky urban commuter's best friend remains to be seen, but its compact design and electric efficiency are sure to turn heads on city streets.
