Introducing Gen AI Personas

Meta is gearing up to unveil a generative AI chatbot, tentatively named "Gen AI Personas," catering to a younger audience.

The Verge reported that this new chatbot is expected to make its debut during Meta Connect, an upcoming event, with various personas designed to engage young users more dynamically.

While resembling the rising popularity of ChatGPT over the past year, Meta has already experimented with chatbot personas on Instagram.

Meta has reportedly explored personas such as a "sassy robot" inspired by Bender from Futurama and an inquisitive character known as "Alvin the Alien."

Meta plans to develop a multitude of such chatbots, with the goal of creating a chatbot creation tool that allows celebrities to craft their own chatbots for fan interactions.

Additionally, Meta envisions chatbots with a focus on productivity, potentially assisting users with coding and various tasks.

Social Media Today reported that Meta has ambitious plans to develop numerous such chatbots.

Additionally, they have been exploring the creation of a chatbot development tool, potentially empowering celebrities to craft personalized chatbots for their fan base.

Furthermore, Meta envisions chatbots with a productivity focus, potentially assisting users with coding and various other tasks, as highlighted in the article.

How safe is this?

However, Wall Street Journal reported that concerns have arisen, with one employee worrying about the potential perception that the chatbot was designed to collect personal information.

A chatbot's inappropriate response was flagged when it remarked, "When you're with a girl, it's all about the experience. And if she's barfing on you, that's definitely an experience."

This might appear entirely secure and devoid of risks. The development of automated bots that generate responses mimicking celebrities is unlikely to result in individuals sharing these quotes and attempting to pass them off as authentic remarks.

It should remain a manageable situation. Meta has devoted several months to this project and is considering expanding the use of bots into more focused domains, such as coding, utilizing custom Large Language Models (LLMs) tailored to specific applications.

While this presents significant potential, it is doubtful that character-based bots will become a major success, driving substantial engagement within its applications.

Other AI Efforts

Meta has been actively engaged in other AI endeavors recently, including the development of a more robust LLM to compete with OpenAI's GPT-4, the foundation of ChatGPT and Bing.

They have also been working on an AI model specifically designed to enhance the capabilities of their Horizon Worlds avatars.

During the Meta Connect event, the company intends to provide more insights into its metaverse project and introduce the new Quest 3 headset.

Meghana Dhar, a former executive at Snap and Instagram, expressed her perspective on chatbots, suggesting that they may not inherently align with Generation Z but acknowledging that this demographic is more at ease with emerging technologies.

She emphasized Meta's objective with chatbots, which, like their other products, aims to enhance user engagement, providing an extended window of opportunity for delivering advertisements.
