For many years, Apple has partnered with Google to make the latter its default technology for internet browsing, but it was recently reported that Cupertino has the capabilities to create their version all this time. Search engines give the world a way to browse the internet, one that gives it the results and interface that they see online, with the technology already somewhat present from Apple.

The massive monopoly and antitrust case against Google centers on it paying Apple a massive sum to be the iPhone's default search engine, with the US government already investigating.

Mark Gurman's latest Power On Newsletter via Bloomberg has revealed that Apple is capable of creating its search engine now, something that could add more to its revenue stream in the future. Gurman argues that Apple "could do better" with what it has to offer, and a team within the company is already developing a search engine codenamed "Pegasus."

Should Apple release its version of the search engine, there are significant results that are predicted for the company, including a new revenue stream that could likely rival that of the Apple Watch market.

As per Gurman, this search engine created by the company has all the ingredients it needs, but is still a "long shot" for now, seeing as there are no explicit plans yet here.

Apple Search Engine: Tech Already Present

Gurman further claimed (via CNET) that the technology is already present, and Apple has previewed search engine features built into its different services such as the App Store, Maps, Apple TV, and News. Moreover, this feature can be found via Apple's Spotlight, an app with search features that is present on iOS.

Spotlight added web search results, but its data came from Bing or Google.

Microsoft Bing, Google, and Search Engines

Various reports spread last week as Apple was reportedly looking to replace its Google search engine with another service in the industry, centered on Microsoft's Bing. According to the report, Microsoft had a meeting with Apple a day before renewing its contract with Google, but a Microsoft executive claimed that the company was not serious about making the switch.

There is a reason why Google's search engine is the default among iPhones and Macs, with an Apple executive confirming this via the Associated Press last week. According to Apple Senior Vice President of Services, Eddy Cue, Google is offering proficiency for what it brings to the world, with its service being unmatched by others in the tech industry.

Apple has a massive reliance on Google for its search engine needs for its different devices, but a report now from a renowned insider claims that Cupertino has the capabilities to create their version. However, Apple is not yet venturing here entirely, as some available technology like Spotlight already brings a similar tech, with Gurman saying that this is a possible source of revenue for the company.
