Passwords are a thing of the past, and that is what many organizations are now pushing for, alongside tech companies, with the Apple ID now featuring its support for the Passkeys. Users may now log in to their Apple accounts on different platforms without passwords, and this could be done via the iOS 17 and the macOS Sonoma, provided that it is supported by their device.
Apple supports passwordless logins via Passkeys, using the biometrics login feature available on Apple devices, either the Touch ID or the Face ID.
Apple ID Supports Passkeys for Various log-ins

Going to Apple.com or the Apple Store on your Mac and iPhones will no longer ask for your password after setting up Passkeys on your account, with that first use being the last time users will enter it. According to 9to5Mac, Apple recently added Passkeys support for various of its services including the iCloud and Apple Websites, with the Face ID or Touch ID being the way to authenticate it.
However, Passkeys would only work if users entered their email address associated with their Apple IDs or accounts, and unfortunately, this would have to be inputted every time users log in.
It would work on different platforms including the iPhone and Mac's settings or Apple apps, and it is also available for Safari to access.

Passwordless via iOS 17, macOS Sonoma
This Passkeys integration is available for the iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and the macOS Sonoma which recently added the support for the passwordless experience and authentication for devices. Users may also use Passkeys login via non-Apple or outdated devices, and it only requires users to scan the QR code present when choosing the Passkeys option.
However, this would only work if the device that scanned the QR is updated, say for example, using your iPhone 15 for Passkeys to log in via a Windows computer or an old Mac.
Passkeys and its Push in the Present
Passkeys were developed by like-minded organizations and companies that aim to phase out passwords, as this outdated technology is also one of the easiest ways to get hacked and grant access to threat actors. Among those joining the Passkeys push in the present is Google, and they have also been advocating for a passwordless future which they claim to be safer.
Multiple tech platforms and renowned names in the industry have also adopted Passkeys support, with TikTok already announcing their use of this feature via iOS devices. It only requires users to have the iOS 16 version on their smartphone to use Passkeys in their TikTok log-ins, allowing them to have a passwordless experience for every authentication need.
The FIDO Alliance and more have joined together in making a passwordless feature possible in the present, with more integrations and companies adopting the change to the way log-ins work. Apple IDs need massive encryption and safety, and this is where Passkeys come in, helping users avoid the need to enter their passwords at all times whenever they need to access their accounts on personal devices.
