Distinguished NBA champion Rick Fox has devised a visionary strategy to address the housing predicament not only in the Bahamas but also in other regions.

In the Bahamas, an innovative house has been constructed using a unique form of concrete that actively removes CO2 from the atmosphere. This groundbreaking home serves as a pivotal player in the ongoing battle against climate change, and the ambitious plan is to replicate this environmentally-friendly design 999 times over.

Leading the charge in this eco-friendly initiative is none other than Rick Fox, the renowned former NBA Lakers star turned actor. As the CEO and co-founder of Partanna, The Verge reported that he unveiled the inaugural sustainable home.

This venture represents a significant step forward in the fight against climate change. Should this endeavor prove successful in the Bahamas, the long-term objective is to establish the alternative concrete as a commonplace building material capable of significantly reducing pollution generated by construction activities. 

Fox made a significant career shift when he chose to leave Hollywood and focus his energy on addressing climate change issues. This transition led him into the world of concrete, a field he was not originally associated with, and prompted questions from those around him who wondered why he was diving into the realm of construction materials.

Personal Background

For him, this journey into the world of concrete was born out of necessity, driven by a deep desire to bring about change in his homeland, the Bahamas. The devastating impact of Hurricane Dorian in 2019, which ravaged a significant portion of the Bahamas and displaced countless people, was a pivotal moment.

Even though he was in Los Angeles at the time, TechCrunch reported that he felt compelled to raise awareness and demand better solutions for the climate crisis, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

Fox crossed paths with Sam Marshall, an architect based in California. Marshall's home had endured damage during the devastating 2018 Woolsey fire, one of California's most destructive wildfires in history.

Impressed by their innovative approach, Fox acknowledged that Marshall had managed to harness a revolutionary concept. Collaborating with material scientists, they pioneered a method to produce concrete without the utilization of carbon-intensive cement, leading to the birth of Partanna.

In the pursuit of proactive solutions to the climate crisis, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Bahamas, Philip Davis, emphasized the pivotal role that the country plays. He remarked in a press release by Partanna, stating that they are not just at the forefront of climate change; they are at the forefront of solutions.

In an impactful collaboration, CNN reported that the Bahamian government has joined forces with Partanna, embarking on an ambitious project to construct 1,000 homes. The initiative kicks off with the development of a community comprising 29 homes, with plans for completion by the following year.
