The future of logging in will no longer require passwords, as Amazon has now adopted Passkeys for its platforms, centering on its availability for the dedicated iOS app and the web. For users looking to utilize this feature, it will give them a chance to enjoy a passwordless login, using only their iPhone's biometric lock screen method which is also used for Passkey.

Amazon announced earlier today that it is joining the Passkeys revolution, first centering on the iOS app and its web experience for all. "Customers can now set up passkeys in their Amazon settings, allowing them to easily use the same face, fingerprint, or PIN used to unlock their device," said Amazon.

All customers are eligible to use the Passkeys on their eligible devices, those running at least iOS 16 on their Apple devices.

The e-commerce company said that it is now gradually rolling out to the iOS Amazon Shopping app and the web, but the Android counterpart would see it in the coming months. Passkey is one of the most trusted login methods available, promising a passwordless experience that is safe and authenticated.

How to Setup Passkeys for Amazon?

Using Passkeys on Amazon Shopping's iOS app is a breeze, as users only need to set it up first and have it readily available when needed.

To start, users need to head to the iOS Amazon Shopping app or the web, and select "Account."

Next, go to "Set up" and this will take users to the process of entering their username and password for the Passkey to save. After saving this, users may now use Passkeys to log in every time they are using their account for Amazon shopping.

Passwordless Logins with Passkey

Passkeys adoption is growing larger, and it is under the FIDO Alliance that partnered with the likes of Apple, Google, and other companies which have already adopted passwordless technology. One of the recent joiners for Passkeys on their apps or platforms is TikTok, the famed Chinese social media platform that has been popular for quite some time.

Google is one of the earliest companies to adopt Passkeys for its accounts and various experiences, offering its users the chance to forego entering one's username and password for their every access. By embedding Passkeys to the login method, companies or platforms may eliminate the need to use their passwords and enter them at all times, allowing the biometrics to authenticate every login for a user.

Apple is also a massive player in the Passkeys adoption, with the company now allowing users to log in to their Apple IDs and accounts using the passwordless biometrics option. Under Apple's technology, Amazon is now introducing the Passkeys experience for all, available via their website and Amazon Shopping app on the mobile, allowing a streamlined and safer way to access one's account.
