It is now official, no more 27-inch iMacs are coming in the future with the renowned M-series chips, a.k.a. the Silicon, as Apple recently confirmed that it has no plans to bring the update for the bigger screen-device. Previously, Apple offered two sizes for the all-in-one desktop, the 24-inch, and the 27-inch, but based on recent releases, the focus is now on the 24-inch that features the M-series.

Apple gave a statement to Ars Technica that confirms the end for the 27-inch iMac variant in seeing an update in the present of the coming future, particularly with the M-series chips. The company claimed that it is not working on running this specific model with the M-series chip and in this case the new M3, with Cupertino focusing on its current lineup with the Silicon chips.

The latest statement stated that it had no plans to equip the larger iMac model with the ARM-based SoC, with the company declining that it is working on the said M-series upgrade.

Cupertino's last release of the 27-inch iMacs was in 2020, and it featured the 10th-generation Intel Core i5 and i7, known for sporting the 5K Retina display.

Apple Wants You To Buy Other Macs with Silicon

That being said, Apple did not decline to comment regarding this and answered the inquiry straight up, something that the company does not normally do, with it further saying that users should move on to other computers equipped with Silicon.

It regarded that users should focus on the likes of the 24-inch iMacs, or the other ones like the Mac mini or the Mac Studio which got the M2 Pro last year.

The Forgotten Intel-powered Macs

The year 2020 was massive for Apple as it featured several different events despite the massive restrictions of the pandemic, with the company making its iconic move from Intel chips to the Apple Silicon SoCs. The ARM-based chips were marketed as the better capable processor that would fit the Mac, and offer improved performances, initially regarded as the 'next generation' of Macs.

April 2021's Spring Loaded event first introduced the iMac's foray with the M-series chips, with the desktop computer getting the M1 chip for the 24-inch variant, and it was also the time when Cupertino offered various colors for it.

However, there was no mention of updating the 27-inch iMac, with many regarding it as being discontinued by Apple and forgotten alongside the Intel chips.

The same speculation and report is now resurfacing, further sending the 27-inch iMacs down the rabbit hole of left-behind technology that may no longer see any further updates from Apple. The new 24-inch iMac with the updated M3 chip sparked the questions yet again, but Apple decided to take a proactive approach with its statement, something which it rarely does, to address the end for the larger iMac variant.
