In the past years and decades, Apple did not push for its Mac computers to be gaming platforms, but that changed in 2023 alongside its M-series chips, with a popular cat adventure game, Stray, now available to download. Instead of relying on other clients and stores for Mac games, the dedicated releases and ports were made available to the Apple App Store.
Stray is only one of the many games in the current growth of Mac's gaming library, with Apple dedicating a different kind of experience in the recent macOS 14 Sonoma.
Stray is Now Available on the Mac's Apple App Store

Apple and Annapurna Interactive's promise to bring Stray for the Mac is now here, with gamers now available to purchase it and download it directly from the Apple App Store.
Annapurna Interactive also claimed that the game is available to download via Steam, and this release is the M-series Mac-optimized version.
It is important to note that the latest games coming to the Mac are meant for Apple Silicon-equipped computers only, meaning that from 2020's M1 down to the latest M3 are the only devices eligible to access it.
Originally, the developers released Stray to the PlayStation, Xbox, and Windows platforms only, with as much as a year that it held out Apple.

How Much is Stray and What to Expect From It?
Stray is available on the Apple App Store for $30 only, and it presents a dystopian game that puts gamers in a cat's perspective, journeying in a future where no humans live on the surface. Gamers will go on an adventure as "Ginger" (dubbed by gamers as the orange cat does not have an official name in the game), and along the way, befriend a robot called B-12 to help in the quest in this cyberpunk world.
Apple Silicon and Mac Gaming
Since the dawn of the M1 in 2020, many have run benchmark tests that determine the capabilities of Apple Silicon-based chips in different activities in computers. In a specific test, Apple faced AMD's Radeon RX 560 and NVIDIA's GeForce GTC 1050 Ti, the top-performing GPUs at the time, with the M1 unified chip winning by a landslide with the original 8-core CPU and GPU.
Further developments were made by Apple for the successors of the M1, and apart from that, the company also improved the gaming experience with the recent release of macOS 14, a.k.a. the Sonoma. There is a dedicated"Game Mode" for MacBooks sporting the Sonoma, offering enhancements to the experience, better control of peripherals, and more.
With different titles available in the Mac via the Apple App Store including the likes of multiple Resident Evil AAA-rated games, and more, Mac gaming's development is looking to expand. Stray has been one of the top games of 2022 which grew to have its cult following, and now, made its way to the Mac to download directly, leveraging its renowned adventure and story, brought by Apple Silicon.
