A massive hack that affected as many as 80,000 people occurred against National Amusements, the renowned parent company of CBS and Paramount, but the twist in this story is that this happened last year. This was only reported this 2023, under a recent filing by the renowned cinema chain and media conglomerate, with the breach opening the access to thousands of personal information.

The question remains regarding the transparency of this attack, particularly as National Amusements refuses to give comments about this issue.

National Amusements Hack: Breach Affected 80,000 Users

TechCrunch reported the latest revelation of National Amusements' hack, centering on a total of 82,128 people affected by this recent attack on the company, compromising user data. The breach have the hackers a lot to obtain via the company, but it remains unknown who were the main victims in this attack.

It was said that the company's human resources chief was sent a notification letter regarding the data breach that occurred within the company, with the threat actors already taking away the data.

Paramount Parent Company Breach Reported Late

What is even more alarming in this case is that the hack took place in December 2022, with the company only discovering the breach months later in August 2023.

This filing was made under Maine's Attorney General, thanks to the 2005 state digital privacy law. The company notified its customers a year later, with the company telling those affected only this December 22, 2023.

Massive Breaches Reported these Holidays

While many people are looking to enjoy some time off work, school, or drama in life, the notorious threat actors were busy taking advantage of this time to enact massive attacks and hacks against the cyber world. This December 2023 alone saw multiple reports of breaches, including fake extensions in Google Chrome which hid under the guise of a VPN that aims to steal data and more.

There was also the notorious cyberattack on a company called Mr. Cooper, which took place in mid-December where it exposed as much as 14.6 million users, unveiling sensitive personal user data. This attack focused on mortgage and loan customers, with the breach affecting "substantially all" of the current and past consumer data despite only declaring 4 million customers.

A rise in cyberattack cases saw a massive progression this December, and many reports are piling up and adding more each passing day, but while not all happened this year, it is still a cause of concern. National Amusements remains mum regarding this latest issue, but its latest filing already says a lot about what happened, with the company remaining oblivious even months after, with tens of thousands affected.
