The arrival of vivo's X100 series in Europe is bound to generate excitement among tech buffs. This highly anticipated lineup offers cutting-edge features and a price point that may surprise some.

The Chinese tech giant first introduced the X100 series in China, followed by a global debut a month later. After three months, European consumers can finally get their hands on the latest flagship devices - now with exclusive pricing details (via PhoneArena).

The spotlight is on the vivo X100 Pro, priced at €1,199 ($1298). This pricing strategy takes a notable leap from the initial figures we saw during the global debut in India - approximately $770 for the X100 and $1083 for the X100 Pro.

A Closer Look at Specs

Priced €50 higher than its Samsung counterpart, the vivo X100 features a glass front and back with an aluminum frame. Furthermore, it is IP68 dust/water resistant up to 1.5m for 30 minutes, ensuring durability.

Internally, it is powered by the Dimensity 9300 chipset, MediaTek's flagship processor challenging the likes of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in the Galaxy S24 series.

The immersive 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with 1 billion colors and a 120Hz refresh rate takes the spotlight, with a pixel-rich 1260 x 2800 resolution.

The octa-core CPU, which includes Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 cores, enables smooth multitasking. Camera enthusiasts will enjoy the triple 50 MP main camera setup, which provides a variety of perspectives, while the selfie camera is 32 MP.

This smartphone has a non-removable Li-Ion 5400 mAh battery and supports 100W wired charging, which promises 1-50% in just 12 minutes, as well as 50W wireless charging and reverse wired charging.

Challenges in the Software Arena

While the vivo X100 Pro shines in terms of hardware, Phone Arena notes that it faces challenges from competitors like Google and Samsung in the software support arena. Vivo commits to three major Android OS updates from Android 14 onwards and provides a three-year warranty.

When compared to Google's promise of 7 years of support for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, and Samsung's commitment to seven years of major OS updates and security patches for the Galaxy S24 series, the X100 Pro appears to lag behind.

Reach and Model Choices

Notebookcheck tells us that Vivo's European release is currently limited to Austria and Czechia. Interestingly, the pricing details were exclusively provided for the X100 Pro, hinting at a strategic decision not to sell the X100 model in Europe. The move suggests a calculated approach to market segmentation and consumer preferences.

The X100 Pro's higher price point in Europe raises questions about its positioning against established competitors. Whether it can carve a niche in a market dominated by tech giants remains to be seen. For now, European consumers have a new contender vying for their attention.
