Google has updated the Chrome Internet browser for iOS, which now support new features like translation and also eats less data.

In mid-January Google announced that it will launch new features for Chrome on Mobile for Android and iOS. The company did release an update for Android within a few days and on Monday, January 27, the Google Chrome team announced the release of Chrome 32 (version 32.0.1700.20) for iOS.

The latest update brings Google Translate directly to the browser. If a user comes across a page written in a language that is not understandable, then the user can translate the page with just a tap on the "Translate" button on the translation bar.

Following the software update, customers will be able to reduce data usage. Google explains that around 20 percent of adult smartphone users in the U.S. mostly browse the Internet with their mobile device. The usage of the Internet on mobile devices is rapidly increasing and with the launch of a new feature on Chrome for mobile, Google will be helping customers reduce their data consumption and decrease data bills.

Google claims that when the feature is enabled, Chrome can compress data and bandwidth management can reduce data usage by up to 50 percent while browsing the Internet on Chrome for Android and iOS.

Users will have to manually activate the feature by going to Settings > Bandwidth > Reduce Data Usage in the application.Once the feature is enabled, the device will route all HTTP traffic through Google's proxy servers. However, the feature is disabled for HTTPS and "Incognito" mode traffic.

However, the feature may cause concern to some users due to privacy issues.

"Bravo! The boldness to spy on 100% of user http traffic by telling them it's a compression proxy, and to 'watch the savings'. I seriously ROTFLOL'd ... Forget data theft straight from chrome, now it grabs it man-in-the-middle style. Users grant full permissions for google to take all data that passes the proxy in the name of 'savings' wink wink, nudge nudge... Wow!" says a user on the App Store.

The app update will also bring some bug fixes and, stability and security improvements.

Chrome for iOS is now available as a free download from the App Store and weighs 25.5 MB. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and requires iOS 6.0 or later.

Users who already have Chrome installed on their mobile device can apply the update to access the latest features.
