Microsoft is back at it again with the annoying pop-up messages that bombard users to switch to Bing whenever they are using the Chrome browser, pushing massively on the Windows platform. If you are using Chrome on Windows, you are not safe from this new tactic by Microsoft, and while it does not ask users to switch to Edge as the browser, it wants Bing to be the default search engine.

This ongoing rivalry between Microsoft and Google stems from many years ago, with this competition significantly affecting users on the Windows platform.

Windows Latest shared a video that shows Microsoft's latest tactic which bombard its users with a pop-up message that urges them to switch to Bing while on the Chrome browser. This recording shows how Microsoft is pushing Windows users to use Bing as Chrome's default search engine, and choosing "Yes" would automatically change the settings and make it the designated engine.

However, Google is not backing down, as Chrome would confirm if the user would like this change to happen, and choosing "No" would have Microsoft still pleading to make Bing the centerpiece with a message "Wait-Don't change it back!"

Clicking "No thanks" would dismiss Microsoft's message and users may go on their way in still using Google's search engine for the Chrome browser.

Chrome Users on Windows: Is It Only a One-Time Notification?

According to the report, Microsoft confirmed that this pop-up for Chrome users on Windows is only a one-time notification, and after that entire scenario enumerated earlier, it would no longer appear. Microsoft said that in this setup, it is giving customers a "choice" in choosing their preferred search engine, one that leverages Bing on Chrome via Windows.

Microsoft vs. Google: The Battle for the Best Search Engine

The notorious case of Microsoft's notifications to users on the Windows platform has been going on for quite some time now, and back in 2016, its campaign was mistaken for advertisements as they pushed more people to switch to Edge, its one-year-old browser at the time. Microsoft pushed for Edge as the perfect companion for Windows, offering significant features, including the then-inferior Bing browser.

While it is arguable that Google's Search Engine is better than Bing in some facets, there has been a connotation about it, with a supposed deal to replace Apple's default search engine also considering it. A Microsoft executive claimed that Apple was never serious about replacing Google as its default for Safari, but it had an early talk with the Redmond giant about it.

Later on, it was revealed by Google on its antitrust hearing that the real reason why Apple stuck with Mountain View's search engine is because it is better overall compared to others in the market.

That being said, Microsoft is still pushing for its products to be the centerpiece in browsers, especially for Chrome on Windows which gets these one-time pop-ups, to switch to Bing.
