The Meta AR glasses were confirmed earlier this April, a device that will usher in a new era of wearables for the company, specifically designed to deliver augmented reality experiences.

There are no further details on the wearable but there are various reports on what to expect from the upcoming device, as well as when the company will release the tech.

One of the latest techs from Meta was its Quest 3, known for integrating AR into its virtual reality headsets, offering users a chance to mix both realities under one device.

In early April, Meta celebrated ten years of Reality Labs in delivering significant experiences to those under the Meta Quest platform and its other products to enjoy.

In this specific blog post, the company also briefly mentioned the new AR Glasses towards the end, and it did not reveal much information about what the wearable has to offer.

First off, it is expected that LG will supply the OLED display for the AR glasses, and it will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon chip that was used for the Quest headsets. This would either be the AR2 Gen 1 or AR1 Gen 1 according to Tech Radar

AR and AI will make up its features, with an interactive HUD (heads-up display) also coming.

Additionally, speculations claimed that it would launch at around $1,500, close to Google Glass' pricing when it arrived.

Meta's AR Glasses Release Date

The expected release date for Meta's AR Glasses is by 2027, three years from now, following an expected showcase at the Meta Connect 2024 event.

Initially, Meta will release another pair of smart glasses by next year, but the real deal will follow two years later, by 2027.

Meta and Its Wearables

Last year, Meta's roadmap was leaked regarding its ventures with Quest, its renowned partnership with Ray-Ban on the Smart Glasses, and other wearables coming from the company.

It was revealed that the company will choose to focus its attention on VR and mixed-reality experiences for now before the AR glasses, revealing that it will arrive by 2027.

Following the Ray-Ban Stories from 2021, Meta and Ray-Ban delivered on another device last year, also known as the Smart Glasses, now centering on improved features and capabilities.

It was released last September 2023, offering a photo and video capturing capability that uploads directly to Instagram Stories and uses the media as a shot from the device.

Meta promised that the Smart Glasses will get an upgrade soon, one that will feature the "true" augmented reality experience on the headset, complete with displays and other features.

For now, interested users would have to wait until next year for the Meta AR glasses to be showcased, based on speculations, with the device expected around three years from now.
