Kingdom Hearts on Steam

Square Enix has announced that the beloved Kingdom Hearts series will soon be available on Steam starting June 13th. Alongside this exciting news, a new trailer has been released, featuring a fresh rendition of the iconic song "Simple and Clean" by Hikaru Utada.

The trailer cleverly depicted snippets of the Kingdom Hearts games arranged in chronological order, serving as a helpful guide for potential buyers and offering a nostalgic reminder to former enthusiasts like myself regarding the recommended sequence for playing the games.

Steam will offer three Kingdom Hearts titles for purchase: Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III bundled with the Re Mind DLC.

Additionally, a convenient bundle named Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece will be available. This bundle combines all three games into one package at a unified price point.

Buyers of Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind DLC will receive an exclusive keyblade named "Dead of Night," featuring a sleek design in Steam Logo blue and grey colors.

Each of the three games encompasses a collection of various Kingdom Hearts titles across different platforms and console generations. For a detailed breakdown of the games included in each bundle, refer to the provided link or visit the Steam page of each game.

Meanwhile, Hikaru Utada's fresh rendition of "Simple and Clean" stirred deep emotions. As teenagers, many individuals weren't particularly enamored with Disney, but rather, they found solace in Japanese pop, visual kei, and rock music.

Listening to this updated version of a cherished song evoked a sense of nostalgia that transported them back to players' youth yet also resonated with their present selves.

It's a testament to the enduring influence of something held dear throughout the years, shaping the very path that led many individuals to where they are today.

Players are preparing to revisit these nostalgic games, hoping to confront any lingering apprehensions from past disappointments and rediscover the haven that once captivated their hearts.

A Natural Evolution in Gaming Accessibility

The unexpected arrival of Kingdom Hearts on Steam may not come as a shock. The franchise has already been accessible on PC through the Epic Games Store for several years, making Steam the logical next step. Additionally, Square Enix has revealed its intention to expand the availability of its games across multiple platforms.

Despite the series' longstanding presence primarily on PlayStation consoles and handheld devices over its 20-year history, there have been limited appearances on Nintendo DS.

It wasn't until 2020 that Kingdom Hearts made its debut on Xbox platforms, with Nintendo offering a less-than-optimal cloud version of the game in 2022.

It's rather amusing that while the Steam trailer organizes the games chronologically, the actual game bundles don't follow suit.

To follow the sequence depicted in the trailer, you'll need to begin with Back Cover, which is more of a movie than a game, found in Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8.

Then, you'll need to switch to Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 to play Birth By Sleep before returning to KH2.8 to experience Birth by Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage.
