HTC will once again use its flagship Android smartphone as the basis for a new Windows 10 smartphone. The company is expected to announce a U.S. exclusive HTC One M9 for Windows 10.

It's no secret that HTC is planning to launch two new Android 5.0 Lollipop smartphones at Mobile World Congress in March. We've already seen leaked images of both the HTC One M9 and One M9 Plus phablet ahead of HTC's March 1 press event and the pair share an edge-to-edge glass display and HTC's now-signature full metal jacket. The handsets will ship with an updated version of HTC Sense and Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, but if you're more of a Windows Phone fan, a new report claims HTC is planning to offer a Windows 10 One M9 variant that will be an exclusive in the U.S.

We reported back in December that HTC was reportedly planning to take a page out of last year's One M8 lineup by introducing a Windows Phone-powered version of its upcoming flagship 'Hima' One M9. It was believed that the smartphone would ship with Windows Phone 8.1 and receive an update to Windows 10 when Microsoft rolls out its unified desktop and mobile OS later this year.

The reliable @upleaks has revealed that 'HimaW' is the codename for the Windows-powered smartphone and it will run Windows 10. The tipster claims the HimaW will be a U.S. exclusive and come to market with the HTC One M9 name, meaning it will likely follow the same naming convention as last year's HTC One M8 for Windows.

The HTC One M9 for Windows 10 is expected to share the same specs as its Android sibling, which will reportedly include a 5-inch 1080p Full HD display, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 20-megapixel rear camera, and 4-megapixel UltraPixel front-facing shooter for selfies and video chat.

The tipster says that the HimaW/ HTC One M9 for Windows 10 will not be announced at HTC's March 1 Mobile World Congress press event and will instead be announced later, likely to coincide with the official release of Windows 10, expected later this year.

As always, we'll keep you posted on any new HimaW/ HTC One M9 for Windows 10 details as they become available.
