Microsoft has brought a new feature for Windows 11's Copilot for users to test, and it brings the "Hey Copilot!" prompt that allow users to call upon the generative AI technology whenever its needed.
The latest voice activated feature of the AI runs under the Copilot Voice app on Windows 11 Copilot PCs, expanding the company's AI experiences for computers.
While this is no longer new in the technology industry, as companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, and more have already delivered this, Windows is making it available as a novel experience under Copilot.
'Hey Copilot' Voice Command Now Under Testing
The latest blog post from Microsoft revealed its latest feature that is now made available under testing, and it leverages an AI voice prompt that users may utilize for a hands-free direct experience to machine learning. Users only need to utter the words "Hey Copilot!" to get the attention of the AI and.
Microsoft said that this is now available for users under the Windows Insider program, its beta testing program for Windows 11 users.
For users under the Windows Insider program, the latest update for the Copilot app on Windows would automatically add this feature to their computers, but they need to enable the "Hey Copilot" prompt in the app's settings.
Windows 11 Copilot Voice Expands
According to Microsoft, users may ask Copilot questions or any other assistance needed by only invoking its name, and they no longer need to click on any other programs to get its attention.
Copilot would have a microphone icon that would chime alongside a user's commands to indicate that it is listening. Users may end the conversation by clicking on the "X" or wait for Copilot to automatically end it after several seconds of no interaction.
Microsoft and Windows AI
Since the early days of Microsoft's artificial intelligence developments, the company has explored making the experiences available directly on their Windows computers, as well as their different products like the Office suite. The company also did not fall behind when the era of generative AI took over, with Bing being one of the first AI models to join the likes of Google's Bard and OpenAI's GPT, now offering a dedicated Copilot Search.
However, Microsoft's developments have been controversial over the years, particularly as it had made many questionable developments for Windows before. This centers on their Copilot+ PCs that offer the Recall, a feature that has been taken down and relaunched again, with its latest version now available to deliver the revamped search experience for the PC.
As Microsoft stepped out from OpenAI's shadows to develop its specialized AI models, the company has delivered on significant experiences under Copilot to help users get better and easier experiences on PCs. Windows still deliver on massive AI experiences to users, with the Copilot Studio allowing them to create specific AI agents, all towards a more meaningful experience on computers.
