TikTok 'For You' Upgrade: Control Your Feed Better With Manage Topics, AI Keyword Filters

Over the years, TikTok's For You feed has amazed the world but also left it perplexed on how it creates an algorithm that shares significant content with users. Now, the platform is introducing ways to better control it.

The latest update from the social media platform is now giving users a chance to take the wheel on what drives their algorithm, providing specific ways to manage what content to see.

Instead of needing to answer recommendations from TikTok or swipe away immediately on videos one is not interested in, users can now take advantage of these new settings to get improved experiences on For You.

TikTok 'For You' Upgrade: Control Your Feed

According to a new product update from TikTok, the company is making it easier for users to take control of their For You pages with the latest tools to use in tailoring the content they see in this specific feed. Instead of putting in countless hours in building one's FYP, users may now head to the app's settings to manage the content they would get to see when browsing the app.

There are two main features TikTok introduced here, and this includes the Manage Topics feature that the platform previously tested among US users last year, as well as the AI-powered Smart Keyword Filtering.

Manage Topics categorizes the top 10 popular topics available on the platform which users may manage. There is a slider that users may adjust depending on which topic would frequent their feeds.

For example, users may opt to lower the Dance videos on the platform and add more Food & Drink content to appear on their feed.

On the other hand, Smart Keyword Filtering is an AI-powered tool that directly helps users limit certain types of content from appearing. Through this, users may also filter content they do not wish to see at all on different feeds like For You, Following, STEM, LIVE, and more.

While the FYP does not guarantee the most updated posts at all times, it still tries to bring the trendiest ones depending on one's interest, particularly as it relies heavily on one's activity.

That being said, there have been many complaints from users regarding what appears on their For You pages, particularly as some algorithmic content appears despite not being in their interests and tends to be spammy. Moreover, there are also several AI-generated scam videos that may appear here and target users depending on their interests, so it is still best to practice vigilance on online platforms, especially TikTok.

It is known that many users have built their FYP to focus on tailored content that they enjoy via the feed, and this is done by watching specific genres or types of videos, as well as searching or following the blue comment hyperlinks.
