It has only been almost five days since Game Freak, The Pokémon Company, and Nintendo released "Pokémon Pokopia" for the Switch 2, but there is already a markup on its price, and it came directly from Amazon.
There is an ongoing issue with "Pokémon Pokopia's" physical game copies, as many retailers are facing stock constraints, with Amazon temporarily raising its prices despite these usually remaining at its MSRP.
Amazon Sells 'Pokémon Poké Ball' Physical Copies Higher
IGN reported that it recently spotted a surprising change in Amazon's listing of "Pokémon Pokopia's" physical copies, as it saw a $10 bump earlier today from its manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $69.99.
The publication was surprised to have seen "Pokémon Pokopia" at $79.99, reaching $80 on the e-commerce platform amidst limited stock availability of the famed life simulation game from the "Pokémon" franchise.
Over the past few days, physical copies of "Pokémon Pokopia" saw increased popularity as gamers want to get this version of the game. This is despite "Pokémon Pokopia's" physical copies not having game carts with it, as they only offer game key cards that are codes that users need to input on the Switch 2's eShop to download it to their console.
Is Amazon Scalping 'Pokémon Pokopia' Copies?
According to IGN, this is not the first time Amazon has increased the prices on a high-demand game for the Switch 2, also for a physical game version. Several weeks ago, "Resident Evil Requiem's" Switch 2 physical version also saw a price increase on Amazon's platform, listing it for $76.84, which is $7 more than its MSRP.
The recent behavior of Amazon is similar to that of scalpers, who sell specific items for a much higher price amidst theirskyrocketing demand in the market. Based on IGN's report, this is already the second time Amazon has done this within a month.
That said, Amazon's listing of "Pokémon Pokopia" has now brought back the physical copy's pricing to its MSRP from Nintendo at $69.99.
