DuckDuckGo is seeing a massive surge in its user base lately as more people seem to be flocking towards the privacy-focused web browser platform following a significant AI push from Google.

DuckDuckGo Sees More Users Trusting Its Web Browser
According to a report by CNET, DuckDuckGo recently revealed to the publication that its privacy-focused web browser saw a 21 percent surge in installations from May 20 through 26.
DuckDuckGo also noted that on Tuesday, May 26, alone, it saw a whopping 37 percent spike in browser installs from the public, which is seen as a massive development for the company.
CNET's report likewise pointed out that those dates follow the recent Google I/O 2026 conference that took place from May 19 to 20. During this conference, the Mountain View tech giant announced the new AI features that will be released across its products.
More and more AI features are coming to Google's technologies, including its search engine and web browser, which seem to be growing less popular among users.
According to DuckDuckGo, compared to the installs of its privacy-centered web browser way back in the May 13 to May 19 period, the period after the Google event saw a higher surge.
It was revealed by the company that on iOS, its numbers saw a significant rise of as much as 33 percent, and the company also reported that there was a 69 percent surge during Memorial Day itself.
Google's AI Focus Pushes Away Users
Google is known for its massive focus on artificial intelligence lately, centering on their development of the multimodal model Gemini, which is already powering or made available on most of its products.
Google recently revealed an AI-driven search interface that is capable of giving expanded answers to long and extensive queries.
Google Search's search box also gets Gemini's multimodal capabilities as it can now take different kinds of media like photos and videos, as well as files, to analyze and search online.
The new Gemini AI model follows the footsteps of cybersecurity and safety-focused models that have already been released, including OpenAI's GPT-5.5 and Anthropic's Claude Mythos AI.
