If you're a fan of open-world destruction in video games, then you probably already know about the Just Cause series. The first game was a test run, to see if gamers would latch onto a title that's based solely around destruction. It was a success (obviously), and a few years later, Just Cause 2 was born. For 2010, the game was ahead of its time: not only did it focus on destruction, but it featured some of the best and most ridiculous video game physics ever.

Needless to say, Just Cause 2 was a hit - but aside from a free multiplayer patch, it's been years since fans have gotten a chance to play something new. It's been nearly five years already, and it's easy to imagine what Just Cause 3 will be like on the new generation of consoles.

Fans have known about Just Cause 3 for some time now, but the game's first trailer was only just released - and it's exactly what you would expect.

First things first: no, it's not a gameplay trailer. Many fans were hoping for a first look at Just Cause 3's actual gameplay, but the 'Firestarter' trailer is mostly CG. It's not terrible by any means, but still - even a glimpse of the gameplay would have been great.

Even so, it's nice to see that the series' reputation for ridiculousness is still intact. The trailer's somber music may throw fans for a loop at first, but once you realize that everything - absolutely everything - is either on fire or exploding, it's easy to see that Avalanche Studio's tongue is planted firmly in its cheek.

There's not much in the trailer aside from fire, either: there's a quick look at the game's main villain, and a very up-close shot of the main protagonist, but there's nothing in the way of story or gameplay. It's basically a trailer made of explosions, and when you really think about what Just Cause is all about, it makes a whole lot of sense.

The best part about the new trailer is the ending: specifically, the release date. After five years of waiting, fans can rest easy knowing that Just Cause 3 will hit store shelves this holiday season.
