Few other game franchises have developed such intricate and far-reaching character origins and storylines as Mortal Kombat. Only true fans of the game have truly appreciated the depth and motivations behind their favorite characters as they battle their nemeses in bloody, gory, arenas.

A new story trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat X highlights four prominent featured characters, but also showcase some blink-and-you'll miss them glimpses of other characters you can look forward to playing when the game is released in April.


The trailer opens to an older and more rugged Sub-Zero telling three of the the many new playable characters that will be introduced in the new game that they are not welcome.

According to WB Games and NetherRealm Studios, the story of Mortal Kombat X takes place 25 years after the events of the last released Mortal Kombat game in 2011. The new generation of fighters are tough, powerful, and out for blood.

Mileena makes her return in the new installment of the franchise. In her possession is a talisman that gives its bearer unimaginable power which Sub-Zero wants to retrieve with the help of Cassie Cage and the most exciting newcomers who are descendants of heavy hitters in the Mortal Kombat mythos.

Jacqueline Briggs, who is the daughter of Jax. She is joined by Blind Kenshi's son, Takashi Takeda, and to complete the trio is Kung Jin, descendant of Kung Lao.

The new generation of fighters band together to defeat Mileena and her Outworld rebel army and protect Earthrealm.
According to an official announcement which accompanied the debut of the story trailer for Mortal Kombat X, the list of confirmed playable characters is as follows:

An addition to new playable characters, NetherRealm Studios also revealed that Mortal Kombat X will also feature more than 100 new Brutalities (hard-to-pull-off finishing moves) which have been incorporated into some Mortal Kombat titles since Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
