Amazon has finalized its acquisition of the startup company 2lemetry earlier this week, but the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed.

2lemetry is known to have developed an enterprise-geared platform that is built to track and manage IP-powered machines along with other connected devices.

The acquisition is in line with Amazon's expansion of its cloud service into the Internet of Things.

2lemetry assures its users that the service it currently offers remains unchanged following the acquisition. Likewise, the company will continue the same customer support along with its existing name and branding.

"We can confirm that Amazon has acquired 2lemetry, and we look forward to continuing to support 2lemetry customers," said a spokesperson for Amazon.

2lemetry customers include First Mile, the Demeter energy group and Honeywell.

Co-founded in 2011 by CEO Kyle Roche and CTO Chris Chiappone, 2lemetry is an "IoT platform and technology company that powers the connected enterprise, tying people, processes, data and devices together - transforming raw data into real-time actionable intelligence," said the company on its official site.

2lemetry employs a team made up of world-class engineers. Its culture revolves around a combination of empowerment, accountability and open collaboration. The team also embodies the character of a technical startup that values open environment, innovation and camaraderie.

In 2013, Amazon introduced the Kinesis platform, which is the company's first entry item into the IoT business. The platform is designed to process and analyze data streams that are in high-volume and have come from a number of sources, all of which are done in real time. With its acquisition of 2lemetry, Amazon will be able to integrate the company's team and technology as it strives to enhance high-volume data processing and analyzing, eventually creating a configuration that will primarily cater to inter-machine deployments.

Amazon is also positioning its cloud service side of the business toward becoming a provider of security, services and support that go with the Internet of Things on a global scale. The e-commerce site now retails home automation hardware such as thermostats and smart locks. Now that Amazon has its own home-connected assistant hardware known as Echo, it remains to be seen whether 2lemetry's own technology would also find its own space into the world of consumer-focused services.
