For the last several months, NetherRealms has been introducing the cast of Mortal Kombat X one by one.

The vast majority of each trailer has centered around one of the new or returning fighters (though a few have focused on several at once), and it's clear that NetherRealms wants fans to have an idea of who each of these new characters are before the game hits store shelves.

Then again, each new trailer has followed the same basic formula: the character debuts, shows off a few special moves and ends the trailer with a brief glimpse at a Fatality. It's a strategy that's worked well so far, but the trailers are starting to feel a bit too familiar.

Let's be honest: while the character teasers have been great so far, there's nothing quite like a fast-paced, well-edited, explosion-filled trailer to get fans hyped about the game.

Thankfully, when it came time to release such a trailer, NetherRealm absolutely knocked it out of the park:

Nowadays, it seems like there are new trailers released every day, and most of them fail to make any sort of lasting impact - even Mortal Kombat X's numerous trailers fell into something of a rut. That being said, the Mortal Kombat X Launch Trailer absolutely rocks. The music, the editing, the gameplay itself: everything about the trailer is just about perfect, and it's easily one of the best teasers released so far this year.

It's not just a bunch of random gameplay clips, either; there's actually quite a bit hidden within the trailer. While the full character list may have been revealed, characters like Baraka, Kabal and Rain make their in-game debut throughout the trailer - proving that some fighters will be relegated to non-playable, story-only roles in Mortal Kombat X.

Surprisingly, the best part of the trailer is the soundtrack: who'd have thought that a 14-year-old System of a Down song would be so perfect for Mortal Kombat X?

It won't be long before fans can Fatality their friends once again: Mortal Kombat X will hit store shelves on April 14.
