Nintendo's Legend of Zelda - one of the most beloved fantasy video game franchises of all time. HBO's Game of Thrones - a dark, medieval fantasy that in just a few short years has become a worldwide phenomenon. What happens when you mash the two together? One of the best takes on the now iconic Game of Thrones intro yet.

It's called "Game of Hyrule" and it is fantastic. Using the overworld from the classic 2D Zelda game A Link to the Past, YouTube channel megasteakman has painstakingly recreated the game's world in the signature style of HBO's hit show.

The camera sweeps from location to location, as buildings, trees and castle walls sprout from the ground and click into place. Iconic dungeons and villages are instantly recognizable for those who have played the game and watching it all spring to life with such stellar production values is a treat for fans of both fantasy franchises.

Topping the entire video off is a perfect blending of Ramin Djawadi's familiar Game of Thrones opening score with the classic Legend of Zelda theme to create a musical flourish that sets this video high above other fan mash-ups. Netflix, if you are serious about a Legend of Zelda television show inspired by Game of Thrones, you couldn't make an intro much better than this.

Sadly, the Legend of Zelda show may never come to pass and the upcoming Zelda game for Wii U just got delayed into 2016. While it's all doom and gloom for Zelda fans, Game of Thrones fanatics have plenty to look forward to. The show's new season returns to HBO on April 12. You can read about some of the big changes to expect in new season here, as well as about how Game of Thrones was inspired by real history.
