Many budding photographers have cut their teeth on Instagram, and so the photo sharing site has been taking steps to cater to its growing number of intermediate users. The latest batch of features, color and fade tools, are out now for the Android version of the app in inbound for the iOS crowd.

The color tool enables users to tint the highlights or shadows of their images with hues of red, pink, purple, blue, cyan, green, yellow or orange. The fade tool can be used to adjust the saturation of an image, with its slider enabling users to drain a bit of the vibrancy out of their images to get a more washed out look.

To get their digits on the new tools, Android users will need to visit the Google Play store to download version 6.19.0 of the Instagram app. iOS users will have to wait "a few days" to get the tools, which will arrive in version 6.10.0 of Instagram for iOS.

The arrival of the Instagram update on Android before iOS is a change. Android users have a few days to nudge and brag to their friends who use iOS devices, but there isn't a lot of time to do so.

The update to Instagram's tool kit comes a few months after the company added five new entries into its beloved collection of photo filters. The new filters, released in December, included Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetua. To keep track of all those filters, Instagram released a "Manage" option that enabled users to short-list a handful of favorites.

"Inspired by the photography, art, fashion and design of the global Instagram community, we're releasing five new filters that we believe are our best yet," stated Instagram back in December.

Flashing back to the present, the latest update to Instagram also brings with it what the company calls "Post Notifications." Users can set up the app to send notifications any time there are new posts from Instagrammers they follow.

Turning on post notifications is as simple as visiting an Instagram profile and selecting the "Turn on Post Notifications" option from the options menu in the the top-right corner.
