The world is still abuzz with excitement over Apple's iOS 8.3 update and all of the new emojis it brings. While most of that enthusiasm has rightfully been over the slew of racially diverse emoji additions, there is one new emoji that deserves a round of applause. Or should I say a Vulcan salute?

That's right. Apple's iOS 8.3 update also comes with an emoji for the Vulcan salute, the hand gesture made famous by Leonard Nimoy's character Spock on Star Trek. Now your mobile life can live long and prosper.

However, if you've already downloaded the iOS 8.3 update, you may be very confused right now. But as Spock would say, this can all be explained logically.

The Vulcan salute emoji was approved by the Unicode Consortium for all tech companies to use in 2014, according to Mashable. Even though it exists in the world, it wasn't included as part of the updated keyboard for iOS 8.3.

But don't go breaking out the Vulcan death grip just yet. You can in fact access the Vulcan salute emoji on iOS devices.

All you have to do is download and install iOS 8.3. Then, open up a browser on your device and copy the Vulcan salute emoji from Emojipedia. If you just see a rectangular box, it means you don't have iOS 8.3 or OS X 10.10.3 yet.

Go to "Settings" and head to "General," then "Keyboard," then "Shortcuts." Hit the "+" icon. Paste the Vulcan salute emoji in the "Phrase" field, and type in a phrase for the shortcut so that every time you type it, the Vulcan salute emoji will appear. Something like "Spock" should work.

And now you can boldly go where no texter has gone before.
