Mortal Kombat X is nearly here. From the outrageous fatalities to the game's epic single-player story, there is plenty worth getting excited about.

Now you can add another reason to the list: you will be able to play the game's DLC characters free of charge.

Wait, what? We've known about the DLC characters that will be coming to Mortal Kombat X after the game launches, characters that include Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th and Predator. They will each be available to download for $9.99 or for $29.99 all together in the game's season pass.

But the characters will also be available for play in a certain mode for free. Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon took to Twitter to explain.

Pretty neat, huh? From the sound of Boon's tweets, players will be able to play as and against the various DLC characters in the Premiere towers. It's a unique way of approaching DLC that is frankly unheard of. Letting players try out the characters before they spend $10? It doesn't sound like a typical corporate business decision. No doubt it will be much appreciated by fans as they decide which additional characters they want to download.

If you can't wait for Mortal Kombat X, check out everything we know about the game so far here. And if the release of this latest installment in the franchise has you feeling sentimental, you can take a look at some of the best fatalities to be featured in the series so far.
