Full House is getting a reboot and fans of the long-running group-raises-family sitcom of the 1980s can catch up with the lives of their favorite characters.

John Stamos himself, who plays Uncle Jesse to DJ, Stephanie, and Michelle Tanner, confirmed the news over Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday. Stamos will not be appearing regularly as Jesse Katsopolis, but he will act as producer and make occasional guest appearances in the reboot, now called Fuller House.

The show will see the original DJ Tanner, played by Candace Cameron, now DJ Tanner-Fuller, hence the name of the show. DJ is widowed, pregnant, and living in a house in San Francisco, where her sister, Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and DJ's annoying best friend for life and fellow single mom Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), along with her daughter Ramona, all move in together to help DJ care for her sons, 12-year-old JD and seven-year-old Max.

The other original cast members, including Bob Saget playing Danny Tanner, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen playing Michelle Tanner, Dave Coulier playing Joey Gladstone, and Lori Loughlin playing Rebecca Donaldson-Katsopolis, are still in negotiations about future guest appearances.

"If we can't get the Olsen twins, we're gonna dress you up," Stamos joked [video] to Kimmel.

Stamos said members of the Fuller House team have been working on the project for years. However, fans of the long-running ABC sitcom will have to wait until sometime in 2016 to catch up with the lives of their favorite family. Fuller House will kick off with a one-hour special reunion episode and will transition into the spinoff series with 13 episodes revolving around the Fuller house.

Meanwhile, here's a walk down memory lane for all of you Full House fanatics with some of the funniest, saddest, and most memorable moments from the full eight seasons of Full House.

1. Stephanie gets married to her best friend, Harry, complete with a long wedding train, an exchanging of bows, and a stick-on tattoo wedding band.

2. Joey accompanies Stephanie to the dentist, and she tells him she's scared, but she finds her courage right within her. In fact, her courage is in that little "courage hangy ball" inside her mouth.

3. Jesse claims he is perfectly capable of making a simple bowl of cereal after he broke both his arms in a motorcycle accident.

4. DJ and Stephanie perform a song for Danny to distract him from the hole they accidentally punched into his bedroom wall.

5. Jesse and Rebecca find out they're having twins, and Jesse makes a bet with Rebecca that he can be pregnant too. DJ and Rebecca also find out that Jesse's real name is Hermes.

6. Papoulis died in his sleep and everyone has to figure out how to tell Michelle.

7. Michelle regains her memory after falling off a horse, and Kimmy finds DJ her perfect prom date.
