Vin Diesel announced that the next installment in the Fast & Furious franchise will be released to theaters on April 14, 2017.

Diesel made the official announcement for the upcoming movie in the panel of Universal Studios at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, which is a gathering of theater owners from all over the country.

Diesel went up the stage to talk about the success of the latest movie Furious 7, but the franchise star became emotional as he talked about Paul Walker, his co-star and friend that died in a tragic car accident before filming of the said movie was finished.

"The last time I was on this stage I was with my brother Pablo," said Diesel. "It's hard for me to even watch that clip and then come out here without being emotional."

"I swear to you and I swear to my brother upstairs we're going to make the best movie you've ever seen," Diesel added.

Diesel provided no additional details regarding Fast and Furious 8.

Fast & Furious 8 will follow the very successful footsteps of Furious 7, which earned $384 million internationally in its opening weekend of April 3. This launching weekend is the best one in the franchise, supported by the fact that Furious 7 is the last time that audiences will be able to see Paul Walker on the big screen.

Furious 7 also became the movie with the biggest opening in the month of April of all time, the best opening in Easter of all time, the best opening since that of Hunger Games: Catching Fire two years ago in 2013, and the second biggest opening in the pre-summer season.

Furious 7 has now surpassed earnings of $1 billion, reaching the mark only after 17 days of its release in theaters, making the movie the fastest to reach that milestone in the box office.

According to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Fast & Furious 8 will see the crew go to New York for the next installment of the saga. Johnson will be a part of the next film, but to what capacity is not yet known.

Johnson, however, added that he is not sure about the New York tidbit, which means that confirmation from Universal Studios will be needed regarding the information.
