The Android 5.0 Lollipop update has been officially released to owners of the Samsung Galaxy S4. Users on the Verizon network are now receiving the update, leaving Sprint, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular to follow.

Samsung has recently released its two latest flagship smartphones the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge with much fanfare. The devices are proving to be a big hit with consumers, and the company plans to sell in excess of 70 million of the handsets. Demand for the Galaxy S6 Edge is so strong it cannot be met with the current supply, and Samsung has had to commission an additional factory to manufacture more of the unique curved display devices. Both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge come with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

The company's former flagship the Galaxy S5, has been treated to Lollipop as well, as the Android 5.0 Lollipop update has hit owners of the smartphone on all 5 of the largest U.S. carriers: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and U.S. Cellular. Internationally, the update has hit smartphones in many regions as well, although is also yet to be released in a number of important territories.

The two year old flagship Galaxy S4 has also received an Android 5.0 Lollipop update in many international regions, and was the recipient of various updates in international territories months ago when the Android 5.0 Lollipop update was first released.  Recently, variants in Italy, Spain, Slovakia, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, India and Russia also received updates.

Until recently, things remained quiet on the U.S. front, until last week when AT&T became the first U.S. carrier to release the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its customers. Now, Verizon has released the update to owners of the Galaxy S4. That leaves three major U.S. carriers to go, and anxious customers of those carriers are awaiting news on when they can expect the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to roll out for their phones.

While Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular are next in line to release the U.S. Android 5.0 Lollipop updates, it appears that none of those updates are imminent. Sprint and T-Mobile have remained silent regarding the update, and T-Mobile has not included the device on their official software update page.

We'll continue to bring you the latest news regarding the Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update to customers of the three networks that are yet to release it. Meanwhile, if you have received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for your Galaxy S4 or are still waiting in the wings, please let us know in the comments below.
