Sprint has extended its data rollover program called the Monthly Rolling Data—where the unused data by a user does not expire but gets banked to the next month—to its prepaid users as well.

The new Monthly Rolling Data program for the carrier's prepaid customers offers three rolling data options.

The plan starts at $35 per month and gives users not only unlimited talk time and texts, but also 1GB of data that can be rolled over.

Alternatively, prepaid users can opt for the $45 per month plan wherein they get 3GB of rolling data along with unlimited talk time and text. Prepaid users looking to take advantage of the Monthly Rolling Data plan from Sprint can also opt for the $55 per month plan, whereby they can avail of up to 6GB of rolling data along with unlimited texts and talk time.

"Sprint Prepaid customers can now keep unused data, adding even more value and flexibility," said Angela Rittgers, vice president of marketing for Sprint Prepaid. "Sprint Prepaid Rolling Data will be available on Sprint Prepaid monthly plans and won't expire alleviating the stress of having to worry about losing unused data."

The USP of the Sprint Prepaid rolling data plans is that, unlike rival offerings, the data will not expire and customers can store up to a maximum of 30GB of unused data. It is also cheaper.

By comparison, AT&T's GoPhone plan also offers data rollover but on the $45 and $60 plans. This data expires after a month.

Customers who are using the T-Mobile Simple Choice Prepaid plan need to shell out money to buy 3GB or more data to qualify for the rollover data. This unused data also expires after a year.

However, for those looking to take advantage of the Sprint Prepaid Monthly Rolling Data plan, there is a caveat: the plans are available only at retailer Best Buy.

After nine on-time payments, customers can turn in their phone and upgrade to a new smartphone lease, only at Best Buy. So for those considering walking into a Sprint store and purchasing the plan, you are out of luck.

Those who purchased Sprint Prepaid prior to May 31 from Best Buy, however, will not be receiving the Rolling Data automatically. They will have to "affirmatively migrate" to a Sprint Prepaid plan that has rolling data.
