Tron 3 is dead in the water after Disney announced that it would no longer pursue kicking the film into production. Many fans, as expected, were not pleased with the decision, but you know what? It was the right one, and Disney should never return to Tron for a long time.

The reason Tron 3 kicked the bucket was due to the failure of Tomorrowland, a movie with George Clooney as one of the lead characters. Not too long after the film hit rock bottom, Disney made the shocking announcement about Tron 3.

While thousands of fans petitioned to have Disney change its mind and return to the project, we believe this shouldn't be the case whatsoever, and that Tron movie should be thrown into the abyss for at least the next 5 to 10 years.

Here's why.

Tron has a niche following, and the Disney name is not enough to get moviegoers who have little knowledge of the franchise to visit the theaters to see this film. Before working on a movie, Disney should attempt to grow the fanbase by creating a TV series. It could be live-action or even animated, as long as it is good, people will watch it.

Disney also needs to get more Tron toys on the market, but probably the best way to boost the fanbase is to give the property to Marvel. An excellent comic book about Tron can go a long way in removing Tron from the niche and into the mainstream.

Such a comic would be separate from the overall Marvel Universe, but with the talent the publisher has right now, Tron would be a great fit and could turn out to be something interesting.

After all these moves to get Tron into the eyes of the masses, then Disney could bring the movie from the abyss. A complete reboot would be needed, not a Tron 3 because by then the original actors would have gotten older, and it would not make much sense to continue the story.

At the end of the day, Disney did the right thing because Tron 3 was looking to be one big mess.
