Fluffy, glazed, sweet, cream-filled and mouthwatering: those are the characteristics of the perfect doughnut.

One woman had a not-so-cream-filled experience, however, when she bit into a doughnut and found that her Krispy Kreme came with a surprising extra filling.

33-year-old Ria Findlay reached into a box of Krispy Kremes that she bought from Tesco for a colleague's birthday as part of an office tradition, expecting to finally sink her teeth into the famous cream-filled doughnut. In addition to tasting the signature cream filling, she also tasted latex.

"It was my first doughnut that I'd ever eaten without the hole inside so it was supposed to be an exciting new experience. As it was my first, I was discussing flavors of the filling with my colleague next to me... It was like: 'Oooh there's caramel, and cream and oh what's this blue stuff?' After a bit of prodding we realized it was a prep glove... Being 7 months pregnant, my gag reflex was in overload," Findlay said.

Ria brought her concerns to the store she purchased the doughnuts from. Tesco not only refunded her money but also gave her a free box of doughnuts. She also raised the concern to Krispy Kreme and a representative sent this public statement with an assurance to investigate the matter:

“We are extremely sorry to hear about this incident. We take our food hygiene very seriously and are currently conducting a full investigation into the matter.

"Krispy Kreme has an exemplary food safety record and we endeavor to take care at all stages of our food production process to ensure that products are produced in a hygienic and safe manner.

"Once our investigations are complete, we will write to the customer to advise her of our findings."

To make things sweeter, Krispy Kreme also sent Ria an additional five boxes of doughnuts but, needless to say, she has lost her sweet tooth for this sweet treat.
