HTC is set to release its HTC One M8 Mini smartphone sometime in May and the device will use the same aluminum case as its larger counterpart and also include a 4.5-inch 720p or 1080p display.

When it comes to the latest flagship Android smartphones, HTC has beaten Samsung's Galaxy S5 and LG's G3 to market with the company's just released HTC One M8. The handset has been receiving praise for its premium aluminum unibody design and high-end specs, like its gorgeous 5-inch 1080p Full HD display, super-fast quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset and its new dual-rear Duo Camera setup.

We recently reported that HTC was working on releasing a mini version of the HTC One M8 and now a new report claims that we could see the miniature smartphone in May, when it's expected to go on sale.

3G.co.uk said, a UK retailer has confirmed to the site that HTC will launch the HTC One M8 Mini and the smartphone will go on sale sometime in May. The source confirmed that the HTC One M8 Mini will use the same aluminum unibody enclosure and a not-so-mini 4.5-inch display, the site claims that it's unclear if HTC will choose to ship the HTC One M8 Mini with a 1080p display, like the one found on the larger HTC One M8 or use a 720p display to help keep costs of the smartphone down.

HTC will also apparently cut costs by not using the HTC One M8's Duo Camera. The company will reportedly use a single rear camera; there was no mention if this camera will be an HTC UltraPixel camera or a standard shooter.

If this report is true, HTC will likely beat Samsung's Galaxy S5 Mini to market.

HTC will face increasing competition in the mini smartphone world, as Samsung is getting ready to launch its Galaxy S5 Mini and LG is about to release the G2 Mini. As always, it's best to take reports of unannounced devices with a huge grain of salt. With that being said, it's almost guaranteed that we will see a mini version of the HTC One M8 and we'll be sure to update you as more details become available.
