William Shatner recently posted a beautiful tribute to Star Trek co-star and friend Leonard Nimoy on Twitter.

The tribute was a mosaic of Nimoy's Trek character, Spock, giving his infamous Vulcan "live long and prosper" salute, so familiar with the character. Shatner had the mosaic photo created from over 6,000 Star Trek fan selfies, doing their own versions of the Vulcan salute.

Shatner initially asked for the selfies from fans at the beginning of the month, but didn't mention why he needed them.

Now, his intentions are clear, with the result being this beautiful tribute to Nimoy, who passed earlier this year. The mosaic project was part of Gishwhes, an annual global charity scavenger hunt hosted by Supernatural's Misha Collins.

A documentary film, For The Love of Spock, directed by Nimoy's son, Adam, is also currently in the works, after a successful Kickstarter campaign.

"The documentary will take both a [somewhat] objective view of the life of Mr. Spock and the career of Leonard Nimoy," said Nimoy in an interview with Tech Times. "But I will also be interjecting some of my personal point of view and experiences growing up with my dad. And hopefully, the documentary will also include the perspective of other family members."

Interestingly enough, planning for the documentary began before Nimoy's death in February, but after that, fans overwhelmingly donated to the Kickstarter project to have the film made.
