A woman from Bromsberrow Heath, Gloucester, was able to purchase and crack open an enormous egg that in a one is to 11 billion chance, has a four yolks inside.

Jan Long, 63 did not expect that the egg, despite its size, would contain multiple yolks. The said discovery is possibly the only quadruple-yolker produced in Britain for the whole of 2015.

The unique egg has gained much attention even before it was cracked open. At the store where Long bought the egg, the poultry product was an attention-stealer as it was approximately thrice the size of a normal egg and weighs nearly four ounces. The egg was delivered to a store located near where she volunteers and according to her, she was the fastest customer to purchase it. "We had never seen anything that big before," says Long. All the store patrons showed interest in buying the egg but Long was the quickest. She said she just have to have it.

Long cooked and shared the egg with her husband Richard for breakfast. She specifically placed the yolks on a toast and said it was wonderful. According to her, it was delicious, richer compared to normal eggs and had a more enforced "eggy" taste.

As there were four yolks, Long had to use a large China bowl as she cracked the egg, which she described as a "mega monster." "I imagine there must have been a certain amount of clucking when that was laid, an ostrich would have been proud of it," says Long.

The quadruple-yolk egg was last reported in 2010 by a pensioner from Newcastle, who was able to make herself a super special fried egg sandwich by accident. As Britain makes an estimated 10 billion eggs per year, the discovery of Mrs. Long may be the only one of its kind this year.

There is a 0.1 percent that an egg with two yolks may be produced, says Kevin Coles from the British Egg Information Service. Therefore, even a double yolk egg is considered uncommon. But to chance upon an egg that contains four yolks, is a very rare phenomenon.

The most number of yolks in an egg ever recorded was nine, says Tim Daniels, founder of the Poultrykeeper.com. For poultry experts, hens that lay eggs with double yolks are regarded to have some form of "mistake" in their reproductive system.
