A new report is claiming that Alien 5 is a go, but fans should not expect it to go into production because Prometheus 2 could take center stage first.

This is not surprising, but an enormous disappointment to the many fans of the Alien franchise.

According to Bloody Disgusting, 20th Century Fox is very excited to get both films into production and in theaters before 2020. However, director of the first Alien movie and director of Prometheus, Ridley Scott, has insisted to Fox that Prometheus 2 go into production before Alien 5.

To add fuel to the fire, last week, Alien actor Michael Biehn (Corporal Hicks) made it clear to audiences at Sheffield Film and Comic Con that no one has approached him to reprise his role in Alien 5. He also said he has not read a script, so it all points to the possibility that the movie is indeed taking the backseat to Prometheus 2 as reported.

What's even more interesting is when Biehn claimed that Alien 5 would ignore Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection. We're not sure if this means the events of those films will be wiped from the universe, or if Fox just wants to distance the movie from what fans consider the black sheep of the franchise.

Prometheus 2 is expected to begin shooting in January 2016 and open in theaters sometime in 2017. As for Alien 5, it will start filming after Prometheus 2 launches in hopes for a 2018 release.

Neill Blomkamp is the man who will direct Alien 5, so fans should at least have some faith that it could turn out better than Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection.

Bear in mind that anything can change, especially since actress Sigourney Weaver will be busy filming the Avatar sequels. We doubt 20th Century Fox would want to continue the story without her, considering that she is basically the face of the whole franchise at this point.
