Sony is launching a beta test program before releasing the next major software update for the PlayStation 4, and owners of the gaming console are being invited to sign up.

The announcement was made through a post on the official PlayStation blog made by Sony Computer Entertainment America's VP of platforms marketing, John Koller.

According to the blog post, PlayStation 4 gamers can join the beta test program to have a sneak peek into the new software for the gaming console's system. The testers will also be allowed to provide feedback to the development team to be able to further improve the system update before it is rolled out to the public.

The only requirements to participate in the program are for users to own a PlayStation 4, have a stable Internet connection and a master account, with sub-accounts not allowed to sign up to become beta testers. Users are also recommended to become members of the official PlayStation forums beforehand, so that they could be able to access the beta forums.

Interested PlayStation 4 gamers can sign up to become beta testers through the online registration page for the program. Interested users should hurry though, as SCEA said that it is only accepting a limited number of testers without indicating exactly how many.

In the enrollment form, gamers can provide certain details regarding themselves. However, merely completing the form is not all that is needed, as all users who sign up only gain the chance to join the beta trial for the upcoming system software for the PlayStation 4.

SCEA said that the invitations to become beta testers will be at its discretion, and unless users are selected, they will not be contacted regarding the testing program. For those that get selected, they will receive a voucher code through their e-mail addresses. As such, users who sign up for the program should always check their e-mails for the official invitation.

Users who sign up are also required to agree to the System Software Beta Agreement, which includes a section regarding the confidentiality of the beta version of the PlayStation 4's next update.

Once selected beta testers install the system update to be tested, they can choose to downgrade the software of their PlayStation 4 to the latest public version at any time.

The program for beta testers will be starting early next month, and around that time, there will be more details regarding the upcoming new features with the system update.
