It's been 34 years since Ash Williams first embraced his destiny and fought monsters to save the world. He's been through a lot over time — slayed hordes of the undead, replaced a dismembered hand with an iconic chainsaw, traveled through time, and fought his very own evil doppelganger — but one thing he's never done is grow up. It's what makes him who he is, and probably what fans love about him most.

The character Ash is, of course, played by beloved actor Bruce Campbell. This October, Campbell is reprising the role for the first time since 1992 (not counting his cameo in the 2013 remake), on the Starz TV series Ash vs. Evil Dead. The show's first season, which kicks off on Halloween, is comprised of ten episodes that run half an hour each.

Yes, half an hour the standard running time of a comedy, and Ash vs. Evil Dead will have plenty of laughs. But fans need not worry, because as you can see in the new trailer below, it's soaked in buckets of blood, too.

The show picks up Ash's story after he's spent decades bored and alone, avoiding his unlikely destiny as the chosen one and trying not to think of what happened all those years ago. He's forced back into action when a Deadite plague threatens all of mankind.

Starz' marketing materials mention that this scenario causes Ash to finally "face his demons — both personal and literal." But he'll do so with boomstick in hand, chainsaw attached, and one-liners at the ready.

And also a girdle.

Ash vs. Evil Dead is produced by Sam Raimi, the writer/director behind the classic Ash film trilogy, along with his original producer Rob Tapert and Campbell himself. Sam Raimi co-wrote the first episode with his brother Ivan Raimi, and directed it as well. Craig DiGregorio of Chuck and Workaholics serves as showrunner.

The series debuts on Starz on Saturday, October 31, at 9:00 PM.
