If you've played Grand Theft Auto V, chances are you have, at some point, stumbled upon some of the game's wildlife. Whether it is a skittish deer, a furry rabbit or a cunning cougar, the game is filled with a number of animals that can be encountered.

Have you ever wondered what exactly those animals are up when they aren't being run over by Trevor or gunned down in gang warfare? The team behind the 8-Bit Bastard YouTube channel had the same thought, so they've created a GTA V nature documentary that explores the everyday lives of the game's wildlife population.

Needless to say, the results are hilarious. Animals in GTA don't always behave like they might in real life. For example, deers routinely throw themselves off mountainsides thanks to the game's physics engine. That makes for some easy hunting for the cougars of the game, who then casually stroll down the mountain to pick at the carcass. Other wildlife routines are a little more realistic, such as coyotes preying on livestock and hawks hunting rabbits.

The video does come with the following disclaimer:

"DISCLAIMER: Our wildlife documentary isn't totally accurate," 8-Bit Bastard writes. "We're not professional wildlife researchers, we're still just idiots who play computer games. Enjoy it for what it is!"

What it is is a fascinating look at a side of GTA V players don't often see. It's not clear if all these animals are acting on their own or if the folks behind the video took some artistic liberties, but regardless, it makes for an entertaining video that just goes to show why players can't get enough of GTA. The alternate-versions of real-world locations that Rockstar brings to life are so detailed and life-like that it's easy to get lost in them.

Several fans walked away with some GTA-themed prizes after competing in Rockstar's fan-film contest, which concluded last week. The game's film editor, which is currently only available in the PC version of the game, will be coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players alongside a new contest soon. If Rockstar decides to call for nature documentary submissions, 8-Bit Bastard already has it in the bag.
