GAME Brighton created a stir on social media this week when it posted a tweet to announce a new addition to the surprisingly addictive video game, Shovel Knight.

The UK retailer has since taken down the Tweet but not before numerous Twitter users took a screenshot of the exciting news which revealed that, apparently prematurely, Shovel Knight is getting his own Amiibo.

Reports say the Shovel Knight amiibo is up for release in Europe on Nov. 27 and that it unlocks exclusive content for the Wii U and 3DS. Though this is not the first time an amiibo for a video game lead character has been created, what makes the Shovel Knight Amiibo special is that it is the first amiibo created for a third-party game.

According to the Game's UK website, preorders for the Shovel Knight Amiibo begin on Aug 28.

Shovel Knight fans can now shovel their way to justice and wealth, and at the same time have him guard their work desks from enemy attacks as game developer Yacht Club Games shared on its official website some of the perks in owning the Shovel Knight amiibo:

- Unlocks additional game challenges for Wii U and 3DS
- Cooperative multiplayer for Wii U
- New relics, powers and abilities
- New skins for Shovel Knight customization
- Amiibo compatibility with future Yacht Club Games and Nintendo products.

Since its release in 2014, this 2D side-scrolling game has successfully taken off from its Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to sell more than 700,000 copies in all gaming platforms. Shovel Knight's popularity has proven it has effectively simulated the gameplay and graphics of some of Nintendo Entertainment System's most beloved games.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows expansion is slated for release on Oct. 13 and is available for PC, Wii U, 3DS, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
