Sony has introduced a new lineup of Xperia smartphones at the IFA 2015 in Berlin, which includes the Xperia Z5 Premium, touted as the first smartphone in the world to boast a 4K display.

The Xperia Z5 Premium seems poised to give the impending iPhone 6s Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 5 phablets a run for their money thanks to its colossal 5.5-inch screen with a 4K display.

The Xperia Z5 Premium has 806 pixels per inch (ppi), double the pixel density of regular smartphones. By comparison, the iPhone 6 Plus has a pixel density of 401ppi. The Xperia Z5 Premium's pixel density, according to Sony Mobile, is 10 times that of a Full HD TV.

"Imagine the best of Sony TV technologies delivered in a smartphone. A super-vivid and sharp display, right in the palm of your hand. Meet Xperia Z5 Premium. With a 4K Ultra HD display, this 5.5-inch smartphone packs in four times the resolution of Full HD for an unrivaled viewing experience," claimed Sony Mobile.

The Xperia Z5 Premium, the top-end phone in the Z5 lineup, weighs 180 grams, or approximately 0.40 pounds, and measures 154.4 x 76.0 x 7.8 millimeters. It also has a glass mirrored back and a metal body. The smartphone has a 5.5-inch Triluminos display with a 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution that brings auto upscaling.

Under the hood, the waterproof and dust-tight device packs in an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB of RAM. The smartphone will come with 32GB of on-board storage, but for those thinking that the capacity is too little, it is expandable up to a whopping 200GB via a microSD card.

The Xperia Z5 Premium also houses a 23MP primary camera with 1/2.3 Exmor RS, which is leaps ahead those of rival handsets such as the Galaxy S6, iPhone 6 and LG G4. Not only is the sensor powerful. The device's camera also has incredible focusing prowess—only 0.03 seconds of autofocus, which is faster than the blink of a human eye. The device also has a 5MP camera for selfie lovers.

The smartphone also supports 4K video recording, clear image zoom, and digital zoom, Pulse LED Flash, and SteadyShot with Intelligent Active Mode instead of OIS, which is better for videos.

The 4K phone also has a powerful 3,430 mAh battery that can support up to two days of usage on a single charge. It also packs in a fingerprint sensor.

The Xperia Z5 Premium will be available in three hues—chrome, gold and black—and will hit shelves in November this year. The pricing of the smartphone is not known currently but it will retail in both single SIM and dual SIM variants.
