The second-generation Nest Learning Thermostat now drops $50 off its price tag, selling for just $199.00 after the launch of the third-generation Nest.

The latest model is new and improved, boasting several upgrades over its predecessor. Compared to the second-generation Nest Learning Thermostat, the newly released model rocks a 40 percent larger display with 25 percent higher resolution. The new model is also thinner than its predecessor, while also sporting some neat new features and sensors.

As usual with the launch of a new generation, the older model receives significant discounts that make it more accessible. The third-generation Nest Learning Thermostat now comes in at the $249 price point, replacing the second-generation that now drops to $199.

Although the second-generation Nest Learning Thermostat is no longer the latest and most advanced of the lineup, it's still a very capable device with plenty to offer. The gadget works with 95 percent of homes with low voltage systems, it's easy to install, it remembers the users' preferred temperatures and programs itself with auto-schedule, it automatically turns itself off to save energy when the owner is away from home, and it's easy to control over Wi-Fi from a smartphone, laptop or tablet. It also sports integration with Nest Protect and Nest Cam.

The second-generation Nest Learning Thermostat comes with a solid stainless steel ring, a bright LCD screen with a 320 x 320 pixel resolution and a diameter of 1.75 inches, a sensor window and a built-in, rechargeable Li-Ion battery.

The newly discounted $199 price on Amazon makes the second-generation Nest Learning Thermostat more attractive than before, and the offer is expected to attract plenty of customers. It remains to be seen whether Amazon and other sellers will restock the gadget once it clears existing stock, but interested customers might want to take advantage of this deal while it's still available.

If you'd rather have the latest generation, however, Amazon is also selling the third-generation Nest Learning Thermostat for $249. The retailer notes that it has the gadget in stock, but orders may take an extra day or two to process.
