How gamers view their screen or monitor has a major determination on how the users' gaming abilities progress, or not. And to increase gamers' abilities to view the screen with more ease and skill, SteelSeries has launched a device aimed at helping to track what you are viewing during game play.

Called the Sentry Eye Tracker, it uses eye-tracking technology for coaching -- not in the actual game play -- to practice and train the eye to concentrate on the intricacies of the game one is playing. In essence, it is a training device that should help improve the overall gaming experience by allowing the eye to see more and focus on specifics within game play.

The new device has been created in collaboration with Tobii Technology and allows users to track a number of gaming options, including "fixations per minute." This will allow for a users' eye to be able to be trained to focus on specific aspects of any game without losing focus or moving from one area of the screen to another without purpose.

The device is not aimed at the avid gamer, however. SteelSeries said on its Facebook page that the serious gamer will most likely find the device unnecessary. But for those new gamers who don't have years of experience under their belt, it could be a way to close the gap on the more experienced gamers out there.

"Before your quick reaction time to dodge the enemy's stun, before your amazing 360 no-scope headshot that wins the game, you need to to see what's happening," SteelSeries says on its website. "Before your fingers do amazing things, your eyes need to see the path to victory."

The companies have not stated when the device will be available, nor have they reported a potential price tag for the device. Most analysts say unless you are a user who is truly interested in tracking gaming statistics and game play functionality, the likelihood of the experienced user grabbing the eye-tracking device seems unlikely.

"When you think about the concept of eye tracking, you immediately think of innovation and next-generation technology; apply that to gaming and you have something truly unique for gamers," SteelSeries CTO Tino Soelberg said.

"At its core, the Sentry employs eye-tracking functionality from our partner, Tobii, who has been a pioneer in eye tracking across many industries. When you take that core functionality and apply the deep gaming expertise of SteelSeries, we think we are able to offer a product that is innovative and incredibly beneficial to gamers."
