Apple's much-anticipated event where the company is expected to release the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus is almost upon us. The big question on Sept. 9 is whether a little sibling in the form of an iPhone 6c will come along.

Rumors have been rife that Apple could introduce the successor of its affordable iPhone 5c, dubbed the iPhone 6c, at the San Francisco event on Wednesday.

The smartphone is speculated to tout a 4-inch screen and will be the second-gen iPhone in the "c" series. The iPhone 5c released in 2013, and it will be after a year's sabbatical that Apple will possibly unveil the next-gen model of the cheaper variant of its popular smartphone.

However, in a departure from the past, Apple is said to be deploying a metal frame in favor of plastic for the iPhone 6c. Keeping these permutations and combinations in mind, noted designer Martin Hajek, who has come up with some fantastic concept designs for the iPhones in the past, has envisioned an eye-catching design for the iPhone 6c.

"Size does matter, but a smaller iPhone 6s ... now that would be interesting! Based on my highly detailed 3D model of the iPhone 6 (you can download it here) I have had a closer look at a possible, smaller iPhone 6c," said Hajek.

Hajek's concept shows his notion of the iPhone 6c next to his designs of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, giving one a size comparison of the anticipated smartphones.

Tech Times previously reported that although the iPhone 6c is said to be in the works, it is poised for a second quarter 2016 release.

However, reports of the device's release date are conflicting. In August, Tech Times also reported that a case meant for the iPhone 6c had leaked online, hinting that the smartphone was aiming for a November release.

Earlier in May, Apple accidentally posted the iPhone 6c on its lightning dock page, fueling speculation that the entry-level Apple smartphone would be released soon.

With the Apple event set to go live in a few hours, we will soon know what the company has in store for enthusiasts.
