Customers that are interested in acquiring an Android TV device but find the $199 Nvidia Shield set-top box to be too costly may be in luck, as Groupon is offering a special deal for the Google Nexus Player.

The ASUS-manufactured Nexus Player is listed for only $49.99 on the group buying website, which represents a 50 percent discount from the device's original retail price of $99.99 and $30 off from the price that it is now being currently sold at in the Google Store.

The listing of the Nexus Player on Groupon states that the device will come with a one-year warranty from ASUS.

The Nexus Player being sold by Groupon is brand new, not refurbished or second hand. The device comes with a remote that comes with built-in voice search, but users looking to also have the supporting gamepad will have to purchase the accessory separately.

Users that are interested in purchasing the Nexus Player from Groupon can save a few more dollars through the use of a code upon checkout. The code is VISA5, and with it, a further 5 percent price from the $49.99 price will be taken way, equivalent to $2.50, taking the price of the Nexus Player down to only $47.49.

According to Android news website Android Police, however, the code for the 5 percent discount to the Nexus Player may not work forever, so users will have to purchase the device immediately to ensure that they save those extra couple of dollars.

The quantities of the device are also limited, which will provide even more reasons for users to take up Groupon's offer for the Nexus Player.

Purchasing the Nexus Player from Groupon comes with free shipping, with the device to be delivered within seven business days from the date of purchase.

While the Nexus Player is not as advanced as the Nvidia Shield set-top box, the device is still a viable option for users looking to enjoy the Android TV experience. The device has access to apps such as Netflix, Pandora and Hulu Plus to allow users to stream movies, TV programs and music. With the optional gamepad, users can also experience Android video games on their TV.
