The DC television universe continues to expand, thanks to the CW's Arrow, The Flash and its upcoming Legends of Tomorrow show. We've seen numerous new costumed heroes and villains make their way to the small screen recently, and now we have our first look at two more: Hawkgirl and Hawkman.

In the show, Hawkman and Hawkgirl are two souls continually reincarnated with the power of the Egyptian hawk god Horus. This gives both characters the ability to sprout wings from their back and take flight. Each character will appear in The Flash and Arrow, and later in Legends of Tomorrow, which features The Atom, Captain Cold, White Canary, Heat Wave and Firestorm united against the immortal threat of Vandal Savage.

Considering there are so many different heroes and villains making up the Legends of Tomorrow team, it's no surprise that they won't all necessarily get along. They'll have to overcome their differences as they travel through time to stop Savage, who will also appear in a crossover episode of The Flash and Arrow before becoming the primary antagonist of his own show.

It's great to see both characters joining the DC television universe — especially Hawkgirl, who is one of DC's strongest female heroes. The costumes for Hawkgirl and Hawkman are reminiscent of their comic book look, albeit darker in color and generally less revealing. Hawkman even has his signature mace. But perhaps their costumes more closely resemble the look of another superhero altogether.

Care to take a guess? The suits of Hawkman and Hawkgirl look a whole lot like Nite Owl's costume from the Watchmen film, based on the DC graphic novel from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

If you've seen the film, you know what I'm talking about. The costumes are almost the same exact color and both feature the bird-like helmet. Could it be the costume designers used the suit from Zack Snyder's adaptation as a starting point for bringing Hawkman and Hawkgirl to the realm of television?

Hard to say for sure, but they sure do look similar. You can compare the two images for yourself. Legends of Tomorrow is set to debut next year.
